The Baltimore Ravens was formed in 1996 when Art Modell, then proprietor of the Cleveland Browns, declared his intention to relocate his team from Cleveland to Baltimore. The controversy ended when the council of Cleveland and the NFL reached a settlement on February 8, 1996. The agreement stipulated that the Browns’ name, colours, uniform design and franchise records would remain in Cleveland. The Franchise history included Browns club records and connections with Pro Football Hall of Fame players. A new team to commence playing in 1999 would be observed as the “reactivated” Cleveland Browns. Modell’s Baltimore team, while retaining all present player contracts, would officially be the expansion team, a “new Franchise Opportunity.” Not all players, staff or front office would make the transfer to Baltimore, however.

The home stadium for the Ravens 1st two seasons was Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium – the former home field of the Baltimore Colts. The Ravens changed to their own new stadium at Camden Yards in 1998. Raven Stadium would then wear the names PSI Net Stadium and finally at M&T Bank Stadium, their present home stadium.

The 2000 season saw the Ravens defence, led by defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis. It was grown into a rock-solid unit that transpired as one of the most formidable defences in NFL history. The Ravens defence set a new NFL record in restraining opponent teams to 165 total points. The team surpassed the mark set before by the 1986 Chicago Bears of 187 points for a 16 game season. Linebacker Ray Lewis was handed Defensive Player of the Year and, with two of his defensive team-mates, Sam Adams and Rod Woodson, played in the Pro Bowl.

Baltimore went for Super Bowl XXXV at Tampa playing the New York Giants, going to a 34–7 win for their 1st championship in Franchise history. The Ravens recorded four sacks and forced five turnovers, one of which was a Kerry Collins interception returned for a touchdown by Duane Starks. The Giants’ only points was a Ron Dixon kickoff return for another touchdown (after Starks’ interception return); however, Baltimore instantly countered with a TD return by Jermaine Lewis. The Ravens became only the third wild card team to win a Super Bowl championship. The interception return for a touchdown, straight away followed by two kick return touchdowns, marked the quickest time in Super Bowl history that three touchdowns had been scored.

Increased Inventory Efficiency Via Contract Warehousing

Jan 18

Outsourcing is becoming a popular tool for running a business. Companies outsource a number of the services formerly performed by internal departments. Some examples of the departments whose work is outsourced might be human resources and payroll, the IT department, and some manufacturing. There is one service that you might not immediately think of. This is your inventory storage. On the West Coast, a Los Angeles Contract Warehouse can increase the efficiency of your company and can save you money. Whether you are in New York or Los Angeles 3PL (third-party logistics) can be the best solution.

One of the most obvious reasons to utilize a contract warehouse is that it gives you more flexibility. Even if your company owns and runs its own warehouses, there may be some times of the year when you have extra inventory that you need to store. If a contract warehouse were not available to you, you would need to have excess warehouse space that would just sit empty for most of the year. The rule that time equals space equals money tells us that owning warehouse space that lies fallow for any amount of time is wasteful of scarce resources. The logical conclusion is that you can see that the less space you own and the more you lease can increase your efficiency.

When you choose to lease contract warehouse space, you need to consider the characteristics and features of the space as you make your choice. While important in every location, in the Los Angeles area, an important consideration is whether the warehouse is on stabilized ground. This characteristic is even more important if the inventory to be stored consists of oil field equipment or heavy equipment of other types. Other features to look for are high ceilings to allow for high rack storage, a dry and well-insulated building to protect weather-vulnerable inventory, and a location that is convenient to a highway so that the transport truck can get the goods to their destination quickly.

The next aspect to think about after the physical building; is the warehouse personnel. In your own warehouse, you have the responsibility for training, managing, and paying the warehouse workers. By contrast, the staff and management of the contract warehouse have specialized training and only one goal, which is efficiently and safely handling your goods. This leaves you and your company the capacity to excel at your core competencies.

A final consideration is your ability to keep in touch with your inventory. If you work with a progressive, high-tech warehouse, they will have a web-enabled tracking system. Using this system, you should be able to view your inventory information online so that, at any moment, you can verify for yourself the quantities and locations of your inventory. This system eliminates the chance that you will waste time on hold while someone else checks your information.

As you can see, third-party logistics is an important consideration in determining your storage solutions. The three areas that you need to investigate in making your selection is the suitability of the warehouse itself, the reliability and knowledgability of the staff, and the convenience of online access.

As The Weather Conditions Throughout The UK Worsens And Retail Outlets Sales Are Hit, Online Sales Will Increase Dramatically

Jan 15

The weather conditions in the UK over the last few weeks has been extraordinarily cold, delivering lots of snow and ice. The last time we saw conditions as bad as this was over 20 years ago and we simply do not have the plans in reserve to cope with it. Salt supplies are at a low and the key salt quarry is working tirelessly to try to meet the huge demand.

Local councils are coming under extreme criticism for not having enough grit and salt reserves to keep all the main routes clear, let alone the minor roads and pavements. All in all it means that travelling the UK at the moment is very difficult indeed, if not impossible. All sorts of different companies and public service organisations are feeling the pressure as staff that do not live on the doorstep struggle to get into work, a large number of them not actually getting in at all. Some hospitals are requesting that people come only if it an emergency, with all non emergency procedures being cancelled.

It does seem rather bleak, and very bad timing for companies who are still suffering the effects of the worst economic recession for 50 years. However not all businesses will be badly affected. Those businesses who have a good number of homeworkers, or who have the IT equipment in place for workers to be effective from home could actually get ahead of their competition here, keeping their services going whilst their competitors struggle with staff absences.

Even better, those organisations, like for example a Website Optimization Company, whose whole trade takes place entirely over the web, will feel no effects of this current freeze. Their staff will carry on operating from their home offices or local offices and everything continues to run easily. Their clients too may well be reaping the rewards of investing in such a service, which is conducted to make sure you get the most from your Online Marketing spend.

Certainly the shops on the high street and in the large shopping centres will not be making the most of the January sales. With travel difficult, pavements dangerously icy and a lack of staff to open the shops they will see a big drop in takings this month, and probably one they can ill afford. Even the Trafford Centre, a huge shopping complexon the edge of Manchester City centre was finding things difficult yesterday. A large number of it’s shops stayed closed due to staff shortages and the whole complex shut it’s doors early as worries developed for the shoppers facing the icy roads on their way home.

With a lot of people trapped at home unable to get to work or even to get to their local shops it is to be anticipated that internet trade will be above average as shoppers leave the high street for the accessibility and ease of online shopping. Many of the bigger retailers have their January sales listed on the internet too. Those who have invested in Online Marketing, to make sure that their websites are easily reached to customers searching the internet, and who have a good Search Engine Placement, may well counter the reduced high street sales that are looming for January.
