Perfect Your Website for the Best Customer Experience

Oct 19

Website visitors are often very busy people. They’re not going to wait around for your page to load. If you are not quick, the visitor will be gone. As crazy as this sounds, it is perfectly true. You have only a few seconds to keep the attention of the average web user and it goes without saying that you need to optimize your site so that it displays as handily as possible. Keep in mind that there are still some people out there who use dial-up connections!

There are a variety of ways to go about this, but to begin with you should get a special Firefox plug-in called YSlow. This handy little add-on is used in association with Firebug and will allow you to see the load time of your particular page. It will give your page a score and a handy analysis, to point you in the right direction.

To start off with, it’s a good idea to really scrutinize your page and do your best to ensure that every detail is absolutely essential for your purpose. Most of us like to look at visually stimulating websites, but is all that “flash” really necessary? Gernerally, flash graphics take a long time to render and you should try and avoid embedded sound files as well.

If you are going to include multiple images, make sure that they are re-sampled and optimized for web display. It makes no sense to have a very high definition image as the file size will take a long time to open. Use online image optimizers to help you. Essentially, always include height and width tags within your image specification. If you don’t, the browser will wait before loading the image to see how it fits in within all the other content on the page.

You should try and use CSS sheets as often as possible. These essentially set a theme for a page and will greatly improve the site loading time. The browser will simply have to look for the external file for relevant styling and formatting, instead of having to interpret each tag over and over again. This makes a huge difference in the amount of HTML code for your page and consequently the amount of time the browser takes to interpret this and display it.

Tables are generally the enemy of a fast loading page. When you need to include tables, it is best to use CSS coding to create the columns on the page using the

tag. If not, make sure that your table does not represent the entire page, as nothing will be displayed until the entire table code has been accessed.

Artistic use of whitespace is not appropriate and you do not necessarily need line breaks between your HTML code either. Try and condense the coding as much as possible.

Remember, remove anything that you don’t absolutely need and if there is a lot of information “below the fold,” you should probably split it up into more than one page. Sometimes less is more!

When Communicating: Be As Clear As Possible.

Oct 18

How would you go about putting together a massive puzzle if you were only given the puzzle pieces without the actual picture which indicates what it’s supposed to look like when it’s complete? This is a very similar situation to what happens when communication falls apart. Even though you may have all the information you need, you still can’t seem to reach a productive end result.

In this era when everyone is pushing the outer limits with their personal time, precise and short communication is the key to unlocking the benefits of anonymity.

Imagine the feeling you would experience if you were no longer required to recite the same statements over and over again! Imagine if all of your employees got what you said at the drop of a hat! Yes, that’s the power of management training and effective communication. Letters and words – when carefully chosen, can turn your company round faster than you can imagine. Listening and giving attention to non-verbal cues constitutes a significant part of interpersonal communication, but why not also strive to speak with precision – mixed with charisma and a bit of magic, so that everyone who is listening can only follow your words to the letter, and do exactly as you suggest.

Be as clear in what you say as possible, and don’t leave any guess work for the listener. Any unclear aspects of your conversation stand equal chances of being understood or misunderstood entirely, so even if it’s a supplier you’ve been dealing with for ages, don’t rely on what you think should be “obvious”. The least of what can be done in these situations is to prepare a document that states all of the “understood” parts, which you can then get the other party to agree to – and if possible, sign it as well. Any new clause that you intend to introduce into the existing agreement should be taken to your partner as soon as possible for their own personal consideration, and if there is mutual agreement, include a written statement of the place and time when the new clause comes into effect.

Dealing with internal and external customers also follows a similar plan. Most business coaching experts agree that the employees (internal customers) should be given an exact position which they’re to strive to reach. This should be stated in both qualitative and quantitative terms. Besides this, a career plan for each of them should be clearly charted out and broken down into an unmistakable time-line. Supplement this process with technological solutions to save time when transferring information. Motivate and train your employees to communicate effectively while preparing the reporting hierarchy (i.e. who is to report to whom). This will help them to acquire a broader picture of the organisation and pave the way for long term benefits for your company.

Last – but never the least, always “Keep Your Word”.

Sourcing Contract Furniture For Your Company

Oct 17

Buying contract furniture is an essential job for any business, particularly those with large premises. It doesn’t matter if you work in a hotel or a hospital, as there will always be somewhere online where you can buy your contract furniture. Make sure you get a good price for what you buy though. My tip is to buy a complete set of new contract furniture and the supplier might be grateful enough to allow some discount.

If you have a budget then it is only natural you will want to buy your new furniture and get a good deal. Talk with your supplier and see what they say. When it comes to chairs, one of the important things to remember is to ask if parts can be replaced. If any extra parts do need to be ordered then find out who pays for the shipping of these. If shipping isn’t required, you should find out about delivery terms and conditions.

There are many furniture suppliers that discount their items if you buy a high volume of stock. Naturally, if you only buy one item then it is unlikely the furniture supplier will give you any discount. If your business has lots of employees and many areas for contract furniture purposes, there is undoubtedly an opportunity for you to liase with your supplier.

Different people might need different chairs and there may be some tall people that need special chairs. No one chair will work for everyone, as the human body comes in different shapes and sizes.

You can purchase your contract furniture either locally, or online if you prefer. Shipping charges are important so be sure to consider these if buying online. Some say that buying locally is the best way, and this might be true if you are buying different piece of furniture.

It is true that if you’re looking to buy new furniture then you should look for comfort as a number 1 priority. You want to make a good investment so buy practical and comfortable furniture and your money will be well spent.

Avoid Subjective Judgements – Be Driven By Hard Data

Oct 16

A never ending flow of reports detailed with colourful charts, graphs and oodles of digits is the first thing that comes to mind as soon as we hear the word “Data”. Its importance can’t be refuted nor mistaken. The reason for this is primarily because “management is a science as well as an art”, and data is what pushes every logical and scientific basis forward toward new information and amazing discoveries.

With every day that passes, organisational databases are increasing in number and capacity, and because of this accelerated change, the key lies in properly managing this data. This combination has led to the widespread use of concepts like data mining and warehousing. Data mining effectively utilises stored information for the purpose of discovering useful associations in hidden patterns and trends, continuously exploring new ways of making all this data a useful asset rather than merely a liability.

The primary advantage of this particular approach is the removal of subjectivity from most of our information related decisions. This occurs because we simply can’t dismiss the obvious indications from the figures. Too much emphasis on these facts and figures can lead to a loss of departmental coherence, causing an organisation to break down, however, a cautious usage of this information can bring about extraordinary gains. The pursuit of any cautious method requires that the data is unbiased, statistically accurate, precise, complete, current, non-redundant, and credible in the required framework.

A data-based method removes stereotyping and pre-conceived notions from the process, filtering out the not-so-useful practices from the really successful ones. Facts and figures generally lead to some level of objective judgement – leaving minimal room for prejudice. This “Technical Analysis” method uses past figures to predict the future ones, and having been widely recognised as a valuable system in the stock markets, Forex and the commodities markets, it’s used today for predicting the probable volume of trading and share price by using past archived values.

As explored in some depth in management training, the same principle can be very insightful in any judgement of human performance. As we all often find, first impressions are not always the correct impressions. There are often cases where an individual doesn’t seem to be useful or productive, but then surprisingly, performs better than the rest. Or in another instance, there may be a situation where someone who is spoken of very highly by others, fails miserably when it comes to actual performance. Here we can see that subjective impressions – unlike the accuracy and reliability of performance data, can often fail to yield any sort of consistently expected results.

In conclusion, most business coaching experts agree that a data based approach is definitely better than any form of subjective consideration, as the former eliminates any unfounded beliefs which were formed without reason, and it does – so to speak, “hit the nail right on the head”.
