Business Change Management: Understanding Process As Part Of EOC
Dec 31
A major component in in the EOC approach to business change management is Process. It can be a term with a wide reach Here, it is meant to refer to work processes. That is the steps employees take to fulfill the services or manufacture the products of the company. During the transitional period of business change management it is necessary to change processes. If this were a play under discussion, this would be the roles and blocking of a new play.
To take the metaphor a little further, to have a successful new play the roles must be assigned. They must be furnished with different lines to commit to memory. After receiving new roles, they must undertake the blocking tasks of learning how to move on stage for the new script. If they are not given the new script, they will be incapable of understanding their role, the thematic elements of the work, or their contribution to the production. The absence of a blocking period for a new production effectively kills it. This is the point at which the company of actors establishes the physical aspects of their performance.
To change realms into business change management, to create a satisfactory change the employees cannot be denied information regarding the new process. For an actor to learn to portray a new character requires that they have the materials they need to do that. If a production facility is asked to retool for a new product, why wouldn’t they be given the schematics to the machinery? Nonetheless, things like this occur all the time in the business world. It is not enough to assign new tasks; employees need to comprehend the tasks.
This takes place in five areas. Clearly the work processes that are required to change need to be identified. You can’t change what you do not know about. Those process changes need to be implemented. Identification is just a beginning, not an end. They must be altered. Like the process itself, the metrics used for the process must be altered accordingly. They need to identify how to measure the changes. The procedure changes need to be identified and implemented. Procedures that haven’t been adjusted are a recipe for disaster with new processes. The final step is to eliminate any remaining vestiges of previous procedures or processes. This could be compared to turning in the previous scripts. It ultimately prevents confusion. In business change management, confusion is the enemy.
Business change management is stuck with the need for Process. The success of change will hinge, in large part, on the identifying and altering processes. Metrics and procedures will have to be revised or replaced. Old metrics and procedures should be eliminated to prevent confusion. Following this Process method can help to minimize problems in change.
